“Praise be to Allah! Whose is whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, and to Him be praise in the Hereafter! And He is the Wise, the Aware. He knows that which goes down into the earth and that which comes out of it, and that which comes down from heaven and that which goes up to it. And He is the Merciful, the Forgiving.” —Holy Qur'an, Surah 34, 1-2

While traveling with the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan as part of a 24-member delegation on his World Friendship Tour III (1997-1998), our first stop after disembarking in Europe was the country of Mali in Central Africa. The Honorable Minister Farrakhan and his delegation were hosted by then president Alpha Oumar Konare' in the capital of Bamako. Mali is the home to the more than 1,000-year University of Timbuktu and is also home to the mysterious Dogon Tribe who disclosed in the last century in 1931 evidence of their sacred ceremonies and teachings originating with visitors from the Dog Star System of Sirius. In this remote desert-like environment, they have handed down from generation to generation their genealogical link to this distant star system which is also related to the beliefs and teachings of ancient Egypt. Millennium of years prior to the age of modern astronomy and modern telescopes and observatories, they tell about the visit of their ancestral gods and scientists and teachers named Nommos.

mali_hogon05-04-2010.jpg
The Hogon, the spiritual leader of Dogon village; Mali.
They identify them as traveling in a fiery spaceship and the appearance of a new star called the Tenth Moon which has only been recently identified by astronomers as the Tenth Moon orbiting the planet Saturn. They were also taught about the giant planet Jupiter and other closer planets in our solar system. They were instructed about the invisible stars B and C which rotate around Sirius A, which were also only recently discovered by astronomers in 1977 and 1995. Again, they also relay through oral traditions and drawings that their teachings were brought to them by beings from that Star System who arrived in fiery air born ships which anchored on our planet and are described as the teachers of the ancient sciences of our universe. This ancient wisdom also included the knowledge of the retrograde orbit of our Tenth Moon circling the planet Saturn named Phoebe, the rings of Jupiter and its connection to earth. They were informed about the orbit of the planet Venus and Mars. They were initiated into the ancient cosmology of the stars pertaining to the mechanics of our universe. Nothing in this tradition presents a spook or mystery god of origin.

The Dog Star Sirius as we have studied outshines all other known stars in our canopy of stars located in the Canis Major Constellation (Big Dog). Since ancient times the Sirius Star System is also related to the Egyptian mysteries taught by the divine couple or pair Isis and Osiris. They are noted in ancient Egyptian lore as the sacred marriage that connects the constellations of Sirius and Orion with Sirius B representing the goddess sister Nefitus. It appears that the Dogon people and their associated tribes in Mali departed from ancient Egypt as we have been taught with their father Shabazz, 50,000 years ago and retained some of the ancient wisdom of their forefathers.

Author, Robert Temple, in his book, “The Sirius Mystery,” writes in the first chapter and opening paragraph the following words, “How could the ancient and secret traditions of an African tribe contain highly precise astrophysical information about invisible stars in the Sirius Star System? Some of it has only been discovered very recently by modern scientists, half a century after it was recorded by anthropologists studying the tribe. … In 1995, the French astronomers Daniel Benest and J.L. Dudent published the result of years of study in the Journal, Astronomy and Astrophysics, stating that a small, red, dwarf star Sirius C seems to exist in the system of the star Sirius. They have detected a perturbation which cannot be explained by any other means.”

In another part of his book on page 32, he explains the appearance of this phenomenal scientific information disclosed by the Dogon Tribe. “Is there any clue in the traditions as to where any sleeping Nommos might be? There is in the Dogon tradition. For the Dogon differentiates very clearly between the fiery, roaring landing craft which they describe as bringing the Nommos to Earth, and the new star which appeared in the sky while they were here, which would seem to be a reference to their larger base parked in orbit. This is called the ‘Star of the Tenth Moon.' The Dogon do three drawings of it showing it in separate stages which seem to imply that it could be expanded and contracted as a sphere at will.”

As remarkable as the above information may be, we have to compare this knowledge to the coming of the Great Mahdi to America in 1930, named W. Fard Muhammad, who also taught us through the Divine Teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad about civilizations on other planets and pointed out the discovery of the planet Pluto, also newly discovered in 1930 at the time of his first public appearance. He also pointed out the appearance of two stars in the southeast corner of the heavens, a blue and a red star, as a sign of universal change in the civilization on our planet. He also pointed out the presence of the Great Mother's Wheel and the advanced civilization on board this manmade planet. He also taught that we would come into the knowledge of a new educational system that would teach us advanced mathematics and astronomy and the mechanics of the universe showing us how our ancient people built great monuments on earth aligned to the stars.

I end with this question: Are we being revisited at this time at the end of the present world order of Satan by beings who are under the command of the Great Mahdi and His Christ, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, who are trying to get in touch with us telepathically assigned as the Great Angelic Hosts now descending from every part of our earth and universe? Is this phenomenon one unit creation as the new heaven and the new earth being revealed to the righteous, the extension of which teaches the Holy Qur'an is as wide as the heavens and the earth?

“And those who disbelieve say: The Hour will never come to us. Say: Yea, by my Lord, the Knower of the unseen! it will certainly come to you. Not an atom's weight escapes Him in the heavens or in the earth, nor is there less than that nor greater, but (all) is in a clear book, That He may reward those who believe and do good. For them is forgiveness and an honorable sustenance.” —Holy Qur'an, Surah 34, 3-4

As we walk into the future, we discover that it is the ever present moment which is ageless and never ending. Looking back into eternity or going forward into eternity, we confront the ever-present reality of now!

In 1930, when The Great Master, Fard Muhammad, appeared in the public for the first time in Detroit, Michigan to establish the Nation of Islam in America, He was identified as a mysterious being who appeared and disappeared, and finally disappeared in the year 1934, leaving His Chosen Servant—the Honorable Elijah Muhammad—in charge over His people.

The First World War had ended and within eight more years from the time of His departure, the world had entered World War II. We are now on the precipice of a third world war of the greatest consequences, conflict and confusion that the world has ever known.

Star Wars and Star Gate, movies and episodes that operate into frontiers of space and science, have become an ever progressive reality. In the time of The Master’s first appearance in the 1930s, many great and universal signs were displayed in the heavens above relating to the star system in our galaxy, planetary kingdoms and the existence of a Great Mechanical Object identified as a manmade planet, and referred to as The Mother’s Wheel, was pointed out by The Master’s explanation that it housed an entire New Civilization—the likes of which have never been seen before.

The last correspondence received by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad from his Great Master was post-marked from Mexico. In the 44 years of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s Work and Mission in the Spiritual Resurrection of his mentally dead people, he, too, was guided to this country, where he established his last residence at the close of a particular cycle of time, leaving me and my children alone in this sacred place. He instructed me to prepare for the future; he guided me to study and learn everything about the society and civilizations living in this country and desired the same studies for his children. Added to this was a diplomatic mission to the government of this land.

As new knowledge and information is being revealed about the significance of his moves, more is coming to pass which is fulfilling his words and his guidance from The Master. Prior to his own departure, which he shared with me more than 32 years ago, what is the link between The Master, the water glass which he displayed in public lectures, the radio in the head and the Crystal Skull?

Master Fard Muhammad demonstrated back in the early 1930s to audiences that through the water, poured into a crystal glass container, He could pull up images of His family back home, and had witnesses from the audience to come forward as witnesses to His powers of mental telepathy. Master Fard Muhammad also stated to His audience that they would one day be able to do the same thing.

During the Crystal Skull ceremony at Palenque, Chiapas, several persons gathered together with the Shaman Qayum Garcia on March 21, entreating us to learn more about the meaning of this phenomenal crystal skull. While many of us experienced this kind of imaging in the Crystal Skull, along with a heightening of awareness, a most unusual event took place. At the close of the Crystal Skull ceremony, a group of 11 Russian citizens suddenly appeared around us. One woman in particular approached me and recognized me and said my name out loud in our presence. She remembered me from a visit several years ago as I had visited their homeland, reaching into Al-Tai, in Siberia, located in a part of the Himalayan and Caucasus Mountains in Russia. They were all nationals from Russia and had gathered in Palenque at that particular moment in time, not knowing that they were going to meet me at the site of the Crystal Skull ceremony.

I had traveled to their country as part of a small delegation accompanying Jose and Lloydine Arguelles, founders of the 13th Moon Calendar Peace Movement. After this profound meeting with persons from the other side of our world, I thought of The Master and His servant, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, and The Master’s lineage from His mother’s side, which is traced from a branch of the Caucasian race living in the Caucasus Mountains.

I also recall the Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s words, which he shared with many of us at his dinner table in 1974, that one day some of us would be blessed to meet Master Fard’s Muhammad’s mother, who would host a special dinner.

Walk with faith, for the ultimate goal is to be united with the Most High God among the Righteous Inheritors of Paradise—a land flowing with milk and honey in the life of the Hereafter wherein rivers flow; a Heaven of Peace, Happiness and Joy while we live.

“And if We had destroyed them with chastisement before it, they would have said: Our Lord, why didst Thou not send to us a messenger, so that we might have followed Thy messages before we met disgrace and shame? Say: Every one (of us) is waiting, so wait. Soon you will come to know who is the follower of the even path and who goes aright.” —Holy Qur’an, Surah 20, verses 134-135

Upon leaving the magical birthing place of the mystical Olmec healers and primary medicine men of that earlier era, we were headed to three main Olmec sites which comprised the discovery of mammoth stone monuments of the cultural contributions of the Olmec culture. We all felt invigorated by the tranquil environment of peace in Catemaco surrounded by another outcropping of natural rain forests, rich vegetation and forested hills meeting the sacred lake and sky. My mind reflected always on the divine teachings of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the many truths he had shared with me and others about the rich history of the original man and people scattered all over our planet earth.

I recalled, in particular, an article which appeared in The Muhammad Speaks newspapers in the ‘60s reporting on the excavation of these huge basalt (volcanic rock) heads of the mysterious Olmecs being unearthed in the state of Veracruz, the site of our current journey. I thought about the blessings for a few of us to have the experience to look directly on these awesome monuments. I have likened this journey to a university on wheels because of the extraordinary information that was being revealed to our group of 26 students and the staff members on board.

Each day of our journey was if a new revelation was being revealed, touching upon the past, present and future times all at once as we actively engaged in parallel worlds in terrific motion being completely saturated with new knowledge. It was as if Almighty God Allah was revealing truths at lightning speeds brightening up a dark and unknown world. Being in the company of Professor Toni Humber was truly an unforgettable learning experience impacting upon us with drama and objectivity with the feeling that we were participating in her classroom at the university level.

This also included the performing arts and aspects of theatre and the performing arts required of all the team as will be explained in fuller detail in a later article that took place at the Yanga Festival in Cordoba, Veracruz. We were also part of a delegation meeting with the elected officials of the town of Yanga and met with families in the area who also experienced the African Diaspora in Mexico. Dr. Humber has made lasting relationships with many of these families with whom we came face to face. Her studies have been inspired by her work with Ivan Van Sertima who wrote the book, “They Came Before Columbus,” and the late Asa Hilliard, whose untimely passing in Cairo, Egypt, transpired while we were on the stop over for the Yanga Festival in Cordoba. May Almighty God be pleased with him for his blessed contributions to the onward and ever-advancing scholarship on Black History and the revival of our lost knowledge and heritage.

Nothing happens by chance. Everything that takes place in our lives comes by the activation of our DNA material and genetic coding, interacting with all of the events that come into being after our birth. We meet each other in our life’s journey by God’s will and permission. Our essence for spirit journeys in a cycle of time from cosmic dust to sperm mixed with ovum until we manifest in this life. We live as if it were an eternity. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad stated this phenomenon in this manner, “Thought never dies. The question is raised what is thought and were does it lodge? What holds thought and where does it abide? If thought never dies, then it must proceed from consciousness and what is consciousness but the ever-living substance that originates from the originator or the divine creator to whom in essence we all return.”

In answering the question raised to The Honorable Elijah Muhammad about the finding of these huge, basalt heads, some of them weighing up to 50 tons, he answered me in these words, “Oh, Sister, the Original Man and people have traveled throughout eons of time all over our planet, so it is not surprising to find evidence of us in the jungles or country of Mexico or for that matter elsewhere on our planet.” The African features on these Olmec heads clearly point to Africa, as we call it today. Olmec is not the original name of these sojourners of our forefathers. The name Olmec is derived from the area of the rain forest where they were discovered near the rubber trees, thus the name Olmec means rubber. These mammoth stone heads number between 17 to recent finds bringing the total to 19 heads.

From this information, I have derived an interpretation that may be connected to these 19 heads. The Olmec culture brought to Mesoamerica the counting system of 0 to 19 with only these heads and no bodies that could symbolize 0 to 19 the decimal system, which counts by multiples of 20. Twenty being a sacred number to the Mayan calendar was derived from the Olmec originators. It is believed that the writing system that is in use in the Mayan calendar is derived from the Olmecs often identified with the jaguar priests who descended from cosmic realms of universal existence that can be traced back to thousands of years. If this proves true, we may be able to trace their origin to Africa’s 50,000-year history, which is rooted in the tribe of Shabazz. This, then, would be the root knowledge from which all other immigrant tribes, to the Americas, derived their knowledge of mathematics and astronomy.

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad has also taught us that in the beginning there were 13 tribes. The number 13 is also a sacred number to the Mayan and other indigenous people of the Americas. The number 13 and the number 20 make up the counting system that is used in the Mayan calendar. All original indigenous people in the Americas and in other locations on our planet have been to one degree or another, worshippers of The Sun going back thousands and thousands of years in the past.

In the body of the Supreme Wisdom, the students of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad are taught that The Original Man searched for trillions of years to find a mystery God. Therefore, they have concluded that there is no mystery God, only the Son of Man. Thus, “son” and “sun” is pronounced the same. With the coming of the Great Mahdi in the person of W.F. Muhammad, the cover was unveiled and he broke through the secret that had been kept in the circle of the scientists to prove that the Son of Man in person is the real God and that we need not search any further for a mystery God, neither in the sun or the moon or the stars but within the human spirit and its ability to manifest the power of God. The photos exhibited in these articles covering the last several weeks were provided by Brother Khaliq Muhammad from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Professor Toni Humber from Pamona, California, and Sister Debie Muhammad from Columbus, Ohio. Thank you to all the team for your gracious contributions as we continue covering our spectacular tour as students participating in our university on wheels.

“That He may reward those who believe and do good. For them is forgiveness and an honorable sustenance. And those who strive hard in opposing Our Messages, for them is a painful chastisement of an evil kind. And those who have been given knowledge see that what is revealed to thee from thy Lord, is the Truth, and it guides into the path of the Mighty, the Praised.—Holy Qur’an, Surah 34, verses 4-6

LAIRD SCRANTON ~THE MYTHOLOGIES OF THE DOGON TRIBE AND OF ANCIENT EGYPT

LAIRD SCRANTON ~THE MYTHOLOGIES OF THE DOGON TRIBE AND OF ANCIENT EGYPT

Essay for the Graham Hancock Website (From the Graham Hancock Website)
Laird Scranton

In this essay, specially written for grahamhancock.com, Laird Scranton, our Author of the Month for December 2003, explores the mythologies of the Dogon tribe and of Ancient Egypt and reveals how underlying their symbolism is an encoded message that reveals they were in possession of highly advanced scientific knowledge. Scranton's new book Hidden Meanings: A Study of the Founding Symbols of Civilization, is available through our bookshop from Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.

Research for my book Hidden Meanings: A Study of the Founding Symbols of Civilization, started a decade ago as an effort to compare common aspects of ancient myths. The many obvious similarities which exist among various mythologies of the world suggested that they may have all derived from a single original myth. My plan was to compare these similarities and differences, and try to derive from those comparisons the key elements of that original myth. My professional background is as a software consultant, and this kind of comparative approach is one that I have used for years – with great success - to understand differences between similar computer programs. I soon came to realize that Dogon mythology – actually the myths of a group of modern-day tribes from Mali - included a very rich set of symbols, themes, and elements found commonly across many mythologies, and therefore would make an excellent base against which to compare the others.

Like many students of mythology, my introduction to Dogon mythology came through Robert K.G. Temple’s book The Sirius Mystery, a controversial work from the 1970’s which brought the Dogon into the modern consciousness. Since the publication of his book, debate over the stars of Sirius has dominated discussions of the Dogon. Temple presented details of apparent Dogon knowledge relating to this star system - drawn primarily from the studies of French anthropologists Marcel Griaule and Germaine Dieterlen - as evidence of unexpected scientific knowledge, couched in the terms of myth. Counter arguments made by scientist and author Carl Sagan, and by later researchers such as Belgian anthropologist Walter Van Beek, called these findings into question, and left the issue of Dogon science in a knotted tangle. Because of this, I realized that any argument based on Dogon myth would have to take a different approach – one that gave a wide berth to the stars of Sirius.

Other key factors in the choice of Dogon mythology as a starting point for my study were the known similarities between Dogon and Egyptian culture, mythology, language and religion. These resemblances stand on their own merit, without connection to the Sirius debate, and suggest that Dogon mythology could actually represent a kind of modern remnant of a very ancient tradition. To my way of thinking, these similarities were an untapped source of possible information, quite worthy of exploration.

One other key point before we start: There is a fundamental difference between the way a scientist approaches a problem and the way a programmer approaches the same kind of problem. Physical science depends on exacting proofs to make its point, while a programmer often works by approximation, much like a traveler crossing the country. A traveler does not calculate to four decimal positions the most direct path to his destination. Rather, he takes a cab to the airport, flies to a hub airport like Chicago or Atlanta, transfers to another plane that takes him to another airport, then takes ground transportation to his hotel. Each step represents an inexact approximation of the journey, the cumulative effect of which takes him to a very precise point. My book works the same way. In the social sciences, there are few points that can actually be proved in a scientific sense; often, at best, they can be demonstrated. But the act of demonstration can actually be more concise, and just as powerful as a proof. For instance, if I wanted to provedemonstrate that gravity exists anytime I want, simply by dropping a pen. On one level, the power and - as John Anthony West refers to it - accessibility of Hidden Meanings lies in its ability to demonstrate its points. that gravity exists, I might present a lengthy mathematical argument that few but an astrophysicist or a mathematician would understand. But I can easily

Perhaps because of the on-going discussion about the stars of Sirius, few researchers thought to examine the many statements of Dogon mythology relating to the structure of matter. Ida Moffett Harrison – the editor of the English language edition of The Pale Fox (Griaule and Dieterlen’s finished study of the Dogon religion) mentioned to me recently about one book - the work of Dr. Charles S. Finch III called The Star of New Beginnings - which touches on relationships between Dogon myth and astrophysics. In order to find and understand these scientific statements, one first needs to come to an understanding of the structure of the Dogon myths. In Dogon mythology there is what I call a surface storyline and a deep storyline. The surface storyline consists of the fireside stories known to most tribe members. The deep storylinebecauseclay pots and the spiraling coils which are so familiar from world mythology. The second plotline discusses details of the creation of the universe and of matter. The third plotline presents information about the creation of life – asexual and sexual reproduction. These three plotlines encompass the whole of themes appropriate to a deliberately composed myth of creation. involves much more detail, and is only known to the priests and a privileged few – those who persist in asking questions about the myths. Marcel Griaule was initiated into the mythology after many years with the tribe, precisely he persisted in asking questions. These storylines are organized as three plotlines-within-a-story. The first plotline – the surface storyline of the myth – deals with the history of how the skills of civilization were acquired by humanity. It establishes many of the key symbols of the Dogon myths – the

One helpful way to look at these myths is as a kind of encyclopedia article. The Dogon call their creation story aduno so tanie – “astonishing myth of the universe”. The types of information contained within the myth run parallel – both in scope and in sequence – to a modern-day encyclopedia article. The science reflected is not rocket science – it is middle school science. And so a software programmer like myself, with no special training in biology or astrophysics, can easily find and understand it.

What we encounter when we examine the myths presented in The Pale Fox are symbols, drawings, and descriptions which unfold – in the words of Germaine Dieterlen – “like the petals of a flower”. Once we realize that the descriptions are about science, it takes almost no effort at all to show that the drawings match diagrams from the same science. We also understand that the symbols of myth which relate to science superbly embody the concepts they are supposed to represent, and therefore must be have been deliberately chosen. For instance, the Dogon drawing of the sene seed – one of the mythological components of an atom - is the image of an electron orbit; Amma’s egg – the Dogon counterpart to the unformed universe - is almost exactly Stephen Hawking’s diagram of the event-horizon of a black hole.

Whatever knowledgeable authority composed the Dogon myths was exceedingly thoughtful of future researchers. Carefully chosen words were used to define each concept – words with double and sometimes triple meanings. When it came time to trace these concepts to Egyptian mythology (the original intention of the research), the Egyptian hieroglyphic language provided clear counterparts to the Dogon words – pronounced the same way, carrying the same multiple meanings, and written using glyphs which replicated the Dogon symbols – the very definition of an identity between concepts. So now, when we see the same word turn up with the same multiple meanings in another culture – like the concept of the po in the Maori culture (which for the Dogon and Egyptians represents the atom) or the concept of a Mother Goddess associated with spiders – we know from the earliest reference that we have tapped into the same tradition.

Perhaps the most astounding aspect of this research rests with the Egyptian hieroglyphs themselves, whose form remained unchanged for almost 3000 years of Egyptian culture. In many cases what I found when I traced the Dogon symbols and words to Egypt were hieroglyphic references to science which were more specific than the Dogon. For example, the Egyptian hieroglyphic words which describe how matter is created are written using glyphs which could be diagrams taken directly from string theory. Clearly, whoever composed these myths knew precisely what they were talking about.

One more comment about Hidden Meanings. For a study of this kind to succeed, it was necessary to focus on the physical and scientific aspects of Egyptian and Dogon culture. But I must emphasize that this is only part of the picture; other aspects are equally important, and are discussed eloquently by other writers, many of whom – like Graham Hancock and Robert Bauval - are credited as references in my book. As one excellent example, John Anthony West’s Serpent in the SkyHidden Meanings, and consistently comes to remarkably similar conclusions about their meanings. If your goal is to acquire a three-dimensional understanding of ancient myths and their meanings, I urge you to continue to read other books on the subject that explore the spiritual, mystical and philosophical aspects of many of the same symbols as

Laird Scranton
